Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety occurs at various levels. This mental health condition ranges from moderate to severe. Many individuals experience anxiety with known triggers. These triggers allow them to know what exactly makes them feel anxious. Others, however, experience anxiety at any time without knowing the triggers. Symptoms of anxiety can include:

  • Panic attacks
  • Restlessness
  • Muscle tension
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Nervousness and irritability
  • Trouble staying asleep or falling asleep
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Increased heart rate

Symptoms of Depression

Depression can be triggered by a traumatic event or develop over time. For instance, if an individual is fired from their job, he/she may not experience symptoms of depression right away. However, the symptoms of depression may manifest over time and emerge several months after being fired. The cause of depression, as well as the symptoms, is different from one individual to the next. Some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Depressed mood or sadness
  • Fatigue
  • Low energy levels
  • Changes in appetite
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Lack of motivation
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Feeling easily overwhelmed
  • Self-harming behavior

Reasons Anxiety and Depression are Often Interlinked

Depression and anxiety are not the same things. However, they are closely related. Both mental health issues can cause you to lose focus during the day or lose sleep at night. Both of these conditions can increase your levels of stress. This, in turn, can increase your depression or anxiety. Furthermore, symptoms from one of these issues can lead to the other.
